Built by Joseph Holloway who came to Smithfield and owned a department store on the corner of Wharf Hill and Church Street. He served on the staff of Governor Mann in the 1900’s and was President of the Home Telephone Company. He was known as Colonel Holloway. In 1948 it was sold to Estelle Gwaltney, widow of PD Gwaltney. More recently it was purchased by Colonel Elsey Harris (USAF, retired) in 1973 and it’s current owner in 2011. This Victorian era beauty not only has a boat dock, but has one of the only boat ramps into the Pagan River in the historic district. This home blends old worlds craftsmanship with modern conveniences, is walking distance to quaint restaurants and shops, and boasts stunning sunsets.
