It’s been awhile since we checked in with everyone’s favorite, “The Gingerbread Mansion,” at 2137 W. Pierce in Chicago’s Wicker Park. It was designed by architect William Ohlhaber for furniture manufacturer Hermann Weinhardt in 1888. Once upon a time in the late 19th century, this area of the city was an enclave of wealthy German & Scandinavian immigrants. This particular home definitely has Northern European influences in its architecture, specifically the elaborately carved side porch overlooking a garden and the metal bargeboards. It’s something right out of a Bavarian fairy tale.photo bye theamericanhome
